SEEKUH, the world’s first certified marine litter collecting ship worldwide has arrived at Hong Kong for the first time.
Hong Kong, January 9, 2018 – SEEKUH, was disassembled in Lübeck in mid-November, stowed in four overseas containers and has been on a long journey to Hong Kong by container ship.
Seekuh is one of the projects of One Earth -One Ocean (OEOO), a Catamaran that is Cleaning Oceans around the World. SEEKUH was first launched in 2016 in Lübeck, Germany.
The ship is 20 metres long and 10 metres wide, the nets between the two hulls can collect the plastic waste up to 4 meters deep. Two tonnes of the garbage can currently be collected per trip or net, from a ton of plastic can recover about 800 litres of sulfur-free fuel oil.
SEEKUH weighs about eight tons and it can be disassembled to ship to anywhere around the world. Hong Kong is the first stop in the Asia tour, followed by Singapore, Cambodia, the Philippines and more and SEEKUH will be working to address the millions of pieces of plastic that are washed onto shores each year across Asia.
