A Few Important Tips When Dealing With A Boat Engine Broke Down

August 11, 2017adminUncategorizedNo Comments
A day trip at the sea with the family or friends will be a lovely time. But what if the engine suddenly broke down? The only choice left will be calling the marine towing company or a fellow boater. However, knowing a few important tips in mind when dealing with a boat engine failure, can get you back up running and saving the day and expense of a towing service.
There are various reasons that cause engine break downs. We have researched and gathered the most common reasons and how to prevent in the future.
Engine Electrics: If the engine stops, the first thing to rule out is to check the performance of the battery and spark plug, make sure the electric connection is connected and that the battery is not dead.
Solution: It could be as simple as a blown fuse, or as complicated as replacing a wiring harness. Unless you are very familiar with the internal system, otherwise contact the professional electrician for help.
Diesel bug: These days yachts and boats have become bigger and better but the diesel bug problem is also increasing, It is one of the biggest problems that can cause engine failure.
Due to the weather changing and if the boat hasn’t been used for a long time, the condensation will cause water building up in the half-fueled tank, this creates a moist environment for fungus and bacteria which degrade the fuel. The microbial contaminants can clog filters, wreck engines, corrode fuel tanks, and leave you powerless at sea.
Solution: Keeping your diesel engine clean by fueling with the good quality fuel and have the tank checked and serviced on regular basis. Filter the water substances out of fuel tank before taking the boat out.
Water Flow: Water holds up the boat, water also sinks the boat. An amount of water flow through the outboard engine works as water coolant. Usually, a lack of water flow is caused by a blockage of some type in the water intake manifold.
Solutions: This is easy to spot, and it’s a quick fix if this is what’s causing your problems.
Engine’s coolant: diesel engine’s coolant is one of its most important parts needs to take care. Once it becomes acidic over time, more chances like the acidic will spread out to other parts in the cooling system. When the engine gets over heated, the boat will stop running.
Solution:  Monitor the coolant and check it regularly.
One of the most of the important things and a simple way is to keep your engine in a good condition is to use quality fuel in your tank, and keep it topped up regularly.
