We are delighted to announce that we are the official fuel supplier for the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-2018 Hong Kong Stopover, it’s coming to hong kong for the first time!
The Volvo Ocean Race is an eight-month around-the-world sailing, held every three years. Sailing is the toughest team challenge and one of the sports of Big Three events, alongside the Olympics and America’s Cup.
Originally named after its initiating sponsor, British Whitbread brewing company, formerly known as the Whitbread Round the World Race. It today carries the name of its current owner, Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo Cars and Swedish multinational manufacturing company, the Volvo Group.
Each of the entries has a sailing team of 9 professional crew (in the 2014-2015 race) who race day and night for more than 20 days at a time on some of the legs. The crew members are required to be more than sailors, some of them will be trained in medical response, sail-making, diesel engine repair, electronics, nutrition, mathematics, and hydraulics. There is also a dedicated media crew member who does not contribute to the sailing of the boat. In the 2017-2018 race, the number of the crew can be between 7 and 11 depending on the gender ratio.
Volvo Ocean Race is an ocean marathon. 2017-18 edition will take the teams 45,000 nautical miles around the world, across four oceans, touching six continents and 12 landmark Host Cities.
There is no prize money for the winners, but seeing your name etched into one of the silver rings of the Volvo Ocean Race Trophy is a prize.
No fresh food is taken on board, so the crew lives off freeze-dried fare; they will experience temperature variations from −5 to +40 degrees Celsius and will only take one change of clothes.
The race is straightforward, day and night. Despite the condition of the sea roughness, It takes the each of the sailors their own willpower and the whole crews’ teamwork to conquer the trip, Nonstop until all legs completed.
Hong Kong will be the finish line for the 4th leg of the race from Australia.
